Capitummino Named Baseball MVP PDF Print E-mail

Junior Tim Capitummino, Niskayuna, NY, Niskayuna High School, has been named the SUNY Cobleskill men's baseball team's Most Valuable Player for the 2010 season. Capitummino received his award at the athletic program's annual Athletic Awards Convocation.

The Niskayuna, NY was named to the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) First Team  after a breakout season hitting in the lead-off spot. In 30 games the left handed hitting centerfielder/pitcher led the team in hitting with a .420 batting average, 37-for-88, runs scored with 35, doubles with seven, walks with 24, being hit-by-a-pitch with six and in on-base percentage at .568. He was successful on 17-of-21 stolen base attempts while driving in a career high of 17 runs this season. In three mound appearances during the campaign he posted a 0-0 record with a respectable 3.60 ERA in five innings of work.

 Cobleskill finished the 2010 season with a 10-22 overall mark including a 2-10 record in NEAC play,

SUNY Cobleskill's Tristan Massalay-Ellis, Flushing, NY, John Bowne High School, a member of the men's baseball team has been named the 2010 recipient of the athletic program's Hugh D. Grace Award for Sportsmanship. The award was presented to Massalay-Ellis at the college's annual Athletic Awards Convocation and is given to the Fighting Tiger male student/athlete who by his action on the playing field, in the classroom and in the campus community has exemplified the code of sportsmanship and leadership.

 This year the senior Business Administration major was selected to the All-North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Second Team after earning a place on the 2009 All-NEAC Third Team. The power hitting designated hitter/outfielder became the first four-year starter for the Fighting Tigers in team history and is the program's career Runs Batted In (RBI) leader with 97.  During the 2010 campaign the Flushing, NY native hit .340, 33-for-97, led the team in RBI with 31, stolen base percentage converting on 18-of-20 attempts, 90.0%, and slugging percentage at .495. He has also contributed five doubles, two triples and two home runs while posting a .400 on base percentage. 

 A team captain from his sophomore through senior seasons, Massalay-Ellis brought his leadership skills to the broader SUNY Cobleskill community this past year serving as the college's Student Government President for the 2009-10 academic year.

 The Hugh D. Grace Sportsmanship Award is presented annually to the senior who, by his action on the playing field, in the classroom and in the campus community, has exemplified the code of sportsman and leadership.

The SUNY Cobleskill Athletic Department announced today that freshman Frank Hines, Durham, NY, Cairo-Durham High School, a member of the men's baseball team has been named the athletic program's Fighting Tiger Athlete-of-the-Week.

The left handed relief pitcher shut the door on visiting Union College from Schenectady, NY on Tuesday in a 10-5 Cobleskill victory by facing only six hitters in two innings of work to earn his second save of the season for the Fighting Tigers. The crafty southpaw closed his rookie season with the program by posting a 4.35 ERA in nine appearances finishing the campaign 0-2 overall with two saves and three holds on the year.

Cobleskill closed the 2010 season with a 10-22 overall mark including a 2-10 record in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) play.

Oswego State Doubleheader Called Off PDF Print E-mail

SUNY COBLESKILL BASEBALL GAME VERSUS OSWEGO STATE CANCELED  

The SUNY Cobleskill Athletic Department announced today that the men's baseball team's game versus Oswego State College that was originally canceled on Saturday May 8th due to inclement weather will not be rescheduled this year. The Fighting Tigers now conclude the 2010 season with an overall record of 10-22.

Men's Baseball Beats Union College PDF Print E-mail

FIGHTING TIGER BASEBALL DOWNS UNION COLLEGE DUTCHMEN 10-5

The SUNY Cobleskill men's baseball team came back from an extended lay-off, playing their first game in nine days, to down the Dutchmen from Union College in Schenectady, NY in a nine inning non-conference match-up at Fighting Tiger Field on Tuesday afternoon by a 10-5 margin. The victory improves the Fighting Tigers to 10-22 overall on the season to date while Union falls to 9-28 overall on the campaign.

Leading 6-5 in the bottom of the seventh inning, the Fighting Tigers capitalized on a pair of Dutchmen errors, two wild pitches and a passed ball to score four unearned runs and seal the victory. Sophomore All-North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) leftfielder Andre Murray, Ramstein, Germany, Ramstein High School, provided the big blow with a RBI producing two-out triple for Cobleskill. Murray finished the day 2-for-5 for the home team with a pair of runs scored and a RBI.

The Cobleskill offense also received a strong performance from junior All-NEAC Team centerfielder Tim Capitummino, Niskayuna, NY, Niskayuna High School, who continued his outstanding season by going 3-for-5 on the day with a triple, two runs scored and three RBI in the victory.

The Dutchmen were paced by junior designated hitter Peter Mugford, South Hamilton, MA, St. Johns Prep, who went 4-for-5 on the day with a two-run homer, a triple and three runs scored on the day.

Fighting Tiger freshman southpaw Danny O'Brien, Woodside, NY, St. John's Prep, shook off some early game rust to improve his overall record to 2-5 on the year holding the visitors to three earned runs on eight hits in six innings of work striking out two while allowing only one walk. Fellow freshman left hander Frank Himes, Durham, NY, Cairo-Durham High School, earned the save for working scoreless eighth and ninth innings facing only six batters during the outing.

Cobleskill will close the 2010 season on Saturday May 8th when they host the Lakers of Oswego State College for a non-conference doubleheader at Fighting Tiger Field beginning at 1:00 PM while the Dutchmen will next host Utica College for a solo contest at Central Park in Schenectady, NY on Wednesday May 5th beginning at 4:00 PM.
