Women's Basketball Suffers OT Loss PDF Print E-mail

FIGHITNG TIGER WOMEN'S BASKETBALL DROPS 59-55 OT DECISION TO MISERICORDIA UNIVERISTY

The SUNY Cobleskill women's basketball team saw their four-game winning streak come to an end Monday evening as the Fighting Tigers dropped a hard fought overtime decision to Misericordia University from Dallas, PA by a score of 59-55. The loss drops Cobleskill to 13-5 overall on the year while the visiting Cougars improve to 13-8 overall on the campaign.

Trailing 51-49 the Fighting Tigers tied the score with 23 seconds remaining in overtime when sophomore guard/forward Heidi Anderson, Canajoharie, NY, Canajoharie High School, hit a running left-handed hook shot from four feet away in the middle of the paint to tie the score at 51-51. The Cougars had a chance to win but sophomore guard Jesse Robinson's, Barton, NY, Tioga High School, jumper with two seconds remaining in regulation was blocked and rebounded by freshman center Kaitlin Myers, Dannemora, NY, Saranac High School, to send the game in the overtime.

Cobleskill scored the first basket in the extra stanza when sophomore forward Chelcy C. Moore, Albany, NY, Albany High School, powered in from the left wing for a lay-up off the opening tip to give the Orange & Black a 53-51 advantage. From that point on the Cougars outscored Cobleskill 8-2 in the period to claim the road victory.

Chelcy C. Moore led Cobleskill in scoring with 17 points on the evening to go with six rebound s and three blocked shots while Heidi Anderson tallied 11 points and five assists. The Fighting Tigers also received 12 points and nine rebounds from Kaitlin Myers who continues to be impressive in her freshman season.  

Cougar sophomore forward Christine Marks, Milford, PA, Delaware Valley High School, paced the Misericordia attack with a double/double garnering 23 points and 17 rebounds on the evening.  Jesse Robinson also finished the night with 11 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals for the visitors.

The Fighting Tigers are next in action on Wednesday February 10th when they travel to Utica, NY to meet the Wildcats of SUNYIT beginning at 7:00 PM while the Cougars next take to the court on Wednesday evening when they travel to Center Valley, PA to face DeSales College beginning at 6:00 PM.

Women's Basketball Tops Keuka College 55-52 PDF Print E-mail

COBLESKILL WOMEN'S BASKETBALL OUT BATTLES KEUKA STORM 55-52

The SUNY Cobleskill women's basketball team remained perfect at the Iorio Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon as the Fighting Tigers out battled the visiting Storm of Keuka College from Keuka Park, NY by a 55-52 margin. The win improved Cobleskill to 13-4 overall on the season, with a perfect 8-0 mark at home, while the loss drops Keuka to 11-6 overall on the season.

Leading 51-49 with 47 seconds remaining in regulation Cobleskill freshman point guard Alexis Hauser, Albany, NY, Albany High School, converted on a pair of free throws to give the Fighting Tigers a 53-49 advantage. The Cobleskill defense then held the Storm on successive defensive possessions with freshman forward/guard Tanayzha Augustine, Poughkeepsie, NY, Poughkeepsie High School, making two-of-four free throw chances to extend the Orange & Black's lead to  55-49. The Storm cut the deficit to 55-52 when junior guard Jessica Fink, New Oxford, PA, New Oxford High School, willed in a long three under intense defensive pressure. On the ensuing inbounds play the officials ruled that Cobleskill had touched a deflected ball going out of bounds and awarded possession to the Storm with 1.2 seconds remaining in the game. Off the inbounds Fighting Tiger freshman center/forward Kaitlin Myers, Dannemora, NY, Saranac High School, blocked and rebounded a Storm three-point attempt to secure the victory as time expired.

Sophomore guard Heidi Anderson, Canajoharie, NY, Canajoharie High School, led the home team in scoring with 17 points to go with four rebounds, four steals and four assists while Tanayzha Augustine joined Anderson in double figures with 11 points to go with five rebounds. Cobleskill also received strong all around efforts from Kaitlin Myers with eight points, a team high 11 rebounds and five blocked shots and from Alexis Hauser with six points, six assists and five rebounds.

Junior forward Nadia Madmoune, Rome, NY, Rome Free Academy, paced the Keuka attack throughout the contest leading all scorers with 17 points to go with game high 12 rebounds, three assists and three steals.

The Fighting Tigers will return to action on Monday February 8th when they host the Cougars of Misericordia University with tip-off at 7:00 PM. Keuka will next travel to Utica, NY to face the Hawks of SUNYIT beginning at 1:00 PM.

Women's Basketball Beats Morrisville State PDF Print E-mail

COBLESKILL WOMEN USE BIG SECOND HALF TO DOWN MORRISVILLE 57-41

Trailing 29-28 at halftime the SUNY Cobleskill women's basketball team turned up the defensive heat in the second half to hold the host Mustangs of Morrisville State College, in Morrisville, NY, to only 12 points on their way to a 57-41 victory. With the win the Fighting Tigers improve to 12-4 overall on the campaign while the Mustangs drop to 3-18 on the year.

During their second half domination of the home squad the Fighting Tigers held Morrisville to only 6-of-35 from the field, 17.1%, including 0-for-8 from three-point range. For the game Cobleskill held their hosts to a meager 16-for-69 from the field, 23.2%, and 2-of-18, 11.1%, from three-point territory. The Orange & Black also held an impressive 64-35 advantage in rebounding for the contest to secure the victory.

Sophomore Chelcey C. Moore, Albany, NY, Albany High School, led Cobleskill posting her fifth double/double on the season with a team high of 17 points to go with 10 rebounds, three assists and two blocked shots on the evening while freshman guard/forward Tanayzha Augustine, Poughkeepsie, NY, Poughkeepsie High School, also posted her fifth double/double of the year with 12 points and 12 rebounds on the night. In the paint the Fighting Tigers received strong efforts from freshman forward Erin McLaughlin, Queensbury, NY, Queensbury High School, with nine points and 16 rebounds and freshman center/forward Kaitlin Myers, Dannemora, NY, Saranac High School, with nine points and eight rebounds to secure the road victory.

The Fighting Tigers will return to action on Saturday February 6th when they host the Keuka College Storm beginning at 1:00 PM.

Women's Basketball Posts Dramatic Road Win PDF Print E-mail

FIGHTING TIGER WOMEN CLIP EAGLES OF COLLEGE OF ST. ELIZABETH 58-57

The SUNY Cobleskill women's basketball team took to the road on Sunday to post a dramatic victory over the host Eagles of the College of Saint Elizabeth in Morristown, NJ by a score of 58-57. The hard fought contest featured eight times and 13 lead changes and was not decided until the final buzzer had sounded. The win improves the Fighting Tigers to 11-4 overall on the year while the Eagles fall to 10-9 on the season with the loss.

The game was knotted at 55-55 when Fighting Tiger freshman forward/center Kaitlin Myers, Dannemora, NY, Saranac High School, split a pair of free throws with 31 seconds remaining in regulation to give Cobleskill a 56-55 advantage. The Eagles retook the lead after a timeout when sophomore forward Sabrina Jarmolinski, Lakewood, NJ, Howell High School, connected on a short jumper with 23 seconds left to play. Cobleskill then moved the ball into the front court and took a timeout with 13 seconds remain to set up a play. With 10 seconds left sophomore forward Chelcey C. Moore, Albany, NY, Albany High School, pitched from the paint to sophomore forward Heidi Anderson, Canajoharie, NY, Canajoharie High School, whose shot found the bottom of the net with seven ticks left on the clock. The Eagles took their final time to regroup setting up Jamolinski, who led all scorers with 23 points, whose shot with three seconds left  missed and was batted out of bounds by the Fighting Tigers. Off the inbounds play Eagle junior center Maesoon Deeb's, Linden, NJ, Linden High School, shot was no good at the buzzer and the Fighting Tigers had held on for the taxing road victory.

Freshman forward/guard Tanayzha Augustine, Poughkeepsie, NY, Poughkeepsie High School, led Cobleskill in scoring with 16 points while Chelcey C. Moore posted her third consecutive double/double of the week with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Heidi Anderson had 13 points, including the eventual game winner, to go with four rebounds and two assists and Kaitlin Myers continued her outstanding rookie campaign with 10 points, five rebounds, three assists and two blocked shots for the Fighting Tigers.

Cobleskill will return to action on Wednesday February 3rd when they travel to Morrisville, NY to meet the Mustangs of Morrisville State College beginning at 6:00 PM.

FIGHTING TIGER WOMEN'S BASKETBALL POSTS 70-58 WIN OVER SUNYIT

After losing on the road at Cazenovia College in Cazenovia, NY on Wednesday evening, 70-64, the SUNY Cobleskill women's basketball team returned to their winning ways on Saturday afternoon outdistancing the visiting Wildcats from SUNYIT in Utica, NY by a 70-58 margin at the Iorio Gymnasium. With the victory the Fighting Tigers improve to 10-4 overall on the season while the Wildcats saw a three-game winning streak come to an end to fall to 9-8 overall on the campaign.

The Fighting Tiger defense set the tempo for the day in the first half holding the Wildcats to only 6-of-33 from the floor, 18.2%, including 1-for-10, 10.0% from three-point range. Cobleskill also out-rebounded their guests form Utica by a 47-30 tally while forcing the Wildcats into 19 turnovers on the afternoon.

The Orange & Black turned to the dynamic duo of sophomore forward Chelcey C. Moore, Albany, NY, Albany High School, with game highs 17 points and 18 rebounds and freshman forward/guard Tanayzha Augustine, Poughkeepsie, NY, Poughkeepsie High School, who also posted a double/double with 15 points and 10 rebounds to keep the Wildcats at bay throughout the contest. Freshman point guard Alexis Hauser, Albany, NY, Albany High School, was also major factor in the victory with 12 points and seven assists for Cobleskill.

The Wildcats were led by freshman guard Lyndsey Brognano, Rome, NY, Rome Free Academy, who scored 15 points and took down five rebounds and freshman forward Kayla McNeil, Stillwater, NY, Stillwater High School, who posted a double/double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Sophomore guard Caitlin Cottell, Eaton Town, NJ, Red Bank Catholic, also had 14 points for SUNYIT to go with four assists.

The Fighting Tigers will get little time to rest as they next travel to Morristown, NJ to meet the Eagles of The College of Saint Elizabeth on Sunday January 31with tip-off at 1:00 PM. SUNYIT will next take to the court on Wednesday February 3rd when they travel to Cazenovia, NY to meet the Wildcats of Cazenovia College with tip-off set for 6:00 PM.
