Fighting Tiger Baseball Players Selected to All-NEAC Team PDF Print E-mail

FIGHTING TIGER BASEBALL TEAM MEMBERS NAMED TO 2010 ALL- NEAC TEAM

GANSEVOORT, NY - The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) announced today that three members of the SUNY Cobleskill men's baseball team have been named to the league's 2010 All-NEAC Team. Fighting Tiger junior outfielder/pitcher Tim Capitummino, Niskayuna, NY, Niskayuna High School, was named to the All-NEAC First Team, senior designated hitter/outfielder Tristan Massalay-Ellis, Flushing, NY, John Bowne High School, was named to the All-NEAC Second Team with sophomore Andre Murray, Ramstein, Germany, Ramstein High School, earning a spot on the All-NEAC Third Team. 

"Tim, Tristan and Andre have had outstanding seasons and deserve this kind of recognition," said Fighting Tiger Head Coach Bill Makarowski. "They are extremely hard workers in practice and have been a pleasure to coach this season and throughout their careers here. As we move forward in our transition to the four-year level of competition their contributions to our program will pay major dividends in the future."

Junior Tim Capitummino had a breakout season hitting in the lead-off spot for the Fighting Tigers this year in 29 appearances to date. The left handed hitting centerfielder/pitcher currently leads the team in hitting with a .410 batting average, 34-for-83, runs scored with 33, doubles with seven, walks with 24, being hit-by-a-pitch with six and in on-base percentage at .556. He has also been successful on 17-of-21 stolen base attempts while driving in a career high of 14 runs this season. In three mound appearances this year the Niskayuna, NY native has posted a 0-0 record posting a respectable 3.60 ERA in five innings of work.

For the second consecutive season senior Tristan Massalay-Ellis earned All-NEAC honors after being named Third Team All-NEAC in 2009. The power hitting designated hitter/outfielder is the first four-year starter for the Fighting Tigers in team history and is the program's career RBI leader with 97 to date. For the 2010 campaign the Flushing, NY native is hitting .340, 33-for-97, leading the team in RBI with 31 and stolen bases percentage converting on 18-of-20 attempts and slugging percentage at .495. He has also contributed five doubles, two triples and two home runs while posting a .400 on base percentage.  

Sophomore Andre Murray brought both power and speed to the Cobleskill line-up this season belting a team leading three home runs while stealing 18 bases in 21 attempts this year. Murray has posted season batting average of .355 with a team leading 39 hits in 110 plate appearances so far. The son of a military family, most recently from Ramstein, Germany, has also contributed 27 runs scored, a team leading 53 total bases to go with a slugging percentage of .482 and an on base percentage of .398 to the Orange & Black's efforts this year. 

The Fighting Tigers will next be in action on Tuesday May 4th when they host Union College from Schenectady, NY for a non-conference single game beginning at 3:00 PM.
